Who we are

Step Up Together is a Community Based Organisation addressing the disparities faced by women and youth in the society through a culturally sensitive approach and evidence-based intervention. We train and empower youth and women on their rights and responsibilities as enshrined in Kenyan constitution 2010

Step-Up Together Organization (SUTO) was founded in 2019 by a group of young women and men moved by the desire to impact and change the lives of women and youths in Kisumu County, Kenya. The founding members, coming from backgrounds and communities that have long been faced with limited access to basic resources with the majority of their peers suffering early pregnancies, deaths due to unsafe abortions, Violence Against Women & Girls, crime and drug abuse were determined to change the story for adolescents, youths and women in slums and rural areas experiencing these inequalities.

The organisation’s foundation was therefore laid on the basis of addressing current and recurrent felt-needs and disparities faced by women and youths in our society addressing them through culturally sensitive approaches and evidence-based interventions.

The organisation has since been empowering youths in Kondele, Manyatta and Nyalenda to form women and youth groups where they generate income, partner with local organisations to advocate for Violence Against Women & Girls in Nyando and Muhoroni, advocate for bodily autonomy of adolescent girls, universal mental health rights for youths and contribute menstrual dignity kits to school going girls among many other achievements.

SUTO is working with grassroots’ community (Men, Women, Youths, Children and Persons living with Disabilities) and the Governance institutions with a common aim of Promoting Democratic Governance and Human Rights; aiming to enhance Social Accountability, Civic Education & Engagement, Anti - Violence Against Women & Girls, Voter Education, Respect for Human Right through Research , Awareness Creation, Capacity building and Advocacy and movement building Initiatives.
