Step Up Together achieved a significant milestone in the area of policing and governance by participating in a training program on the use of data for open governance facilitated by Hivos East Africa and its partners. The organisation collaborated with the Kisumu Central Sub County Administrator and Kondele Ward Administrator, obtaining public documents regarding the stalled construction of Kosawo dispensary. This effort gained public attention and was prioritised for budget allocation in the Annual Development Plan (ADP) FY2023/2024, showcasing SUTO's commitment to transparency, accountability, and community-driven governance initiatives.

CSOs Governance Network
As a member of Kisumu CSOs governance network, SUTO, together with the network members, pushed for the implementation of commitments made by duty bearers during the interface meeting of a scorecard done on Ojolla and Kombewa health facilities in 2022. This has improved the quality of health care provision in the two facilities in Kisumu west and Seme at large. Through the network, we also provided training to the ward and sub-county administrators on their roles in promoting citizens’ participation in county development and improved service delivery.

Access to Information Project
To improve access to Information in Kisumu County, SUTO implemented a project “Access to Information For Meaningful Citizen Engagement (AIMCE) whose objective was to advocate for the operationalization of the access to information Act. After a realisation of the Act's non-existence, SUTO formed The Kisumu County Access to Information Technical Working Group (KCAITWG) whose role was to fast track the legislation process of developing the Access to Information Policy and Review of 2014 Access to Information Bill into an Act. Through Mobilisation support, the Technical Working Group is developing the Policy Zero Draft that will be reviewed before its final approval stages.
